Beach rubbish louts slammed

THE amount of rubbish left on Waterfoot beach after the recent spell of good weather has been slammed by Glens Sinn Fein councillors Noreen McAllister and Colum Thompson.

When contacted by a member of the public both councillors visited the scene and were totally appalled by what they found.

Councillor McAllister, who lives in the area, said: “I was shocked by the amount of rubbish that had been dumped - cans, bottles and plastic bags were strewn across the beach, there were even towels and deck chairs abandoned in the area.

“I would like to condemn those who are responsible for this mess in the strongest possible terms.”

Councillor Thompson added: “We live in an area of outstanding natural beauty and tourism is vital to our local economy. However when tourists and local people come together to use our local amenities and facilities they must respect them. It is totally unacceptable to leave such a mess behind you when you leave. I would like to pay tribute to the council staff, who when notified, came out very quickly and cleaned the mess up. I will also be asking the environmental health department to increase litter patrols in the area.”
