Beacon for 90th birthday
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is considering a number of events to mark Her Majesty the Queen's 90th birthday later this year.
In November 2015, the local government authority agreed to establish a steering group to identify and progress a suitable range of events to mark the occasion. Members include Lord Lieutenant Joan Christie OBE; Mayor, Councillor Billy Ashe and Cllrs James Brown, Noel Jordan, Audrey Wales, Ruth Wilson, and Alderman Gregg McKeen.
Arrangements are underway for a suitable event to accompany a beacon lighting ceremony on April 21 in Carrickfergus, focusing on the castle/Marine Highway area.
A children’s competition, church service, and the provision of a grants programme are also being discussed.
