Beauty queen dreams as Nicole set for final

Crowned “Miss McAleers’s” and going through to this year’s finals of the Open+Direct Miss Northern Ireland contest, is Nicole Caldwell from Banbridge, who has just made it through the recent Dungannon heat.

The bevy of beauties descended upon Dungannon as the local heat of the Miss Northern Ireland contest came to McAleer’s. Girls from across the country competed for their place at the Miss Northern Ireland final in front of an astute judging panel which included current Miss Northern Ireland Meagan Green, Peter Devlin from McAleer’s, Joleen Stewart from ACA Models and Open+Direct representative, Jen Wildes.

“It’s been a bit of a shock taking it all in but I’m really looking forward to the finals” said Nicole, a past pupil of Banbridge Academy.

“At the local heat there were around 15 girls competing. We had to talk briefly about ourselves and our hobbies before being asked questions such as what do you think makes a person beautiful and what would you do to make the world a better place.”

“As I’m involved in charity work, I said I would love to help underprivileged children and give them the same opportunities that I have had.”

Nicole, who is currently preparing for the finals by searching for dresses and working out hair styles, tans and nails, currently juggles a modelling career with her work as a special needs classroom assistant. She said: “I’m a busy person, but very organised and I like to be kept busy”.

Dungannon will also be backing Jodie Brown from Portglenone, who was chosen as “Miss Dungannon.” Both girls will now go forward to the grand final in Belfast’s Europa Hotel in May and stand a chance of winning the coveted title of ‘Open+Direct Miss Northern Ireland 2014.’

Guest judge, Jen Wildes said: “Well done to Nicole and Jodie - they were worthy winners on the night, their poise, beauty and personality really caught the judges’ eyes. Each Open+Direct judge at the heats will be looking for girls with the same combination of ambition, confidence and personality which make a true Miss Northern Ireland champion.”

Title sponsor Open + Direct will also be supporting the Miss NI 2014 contest with a number of “glamorous giveaways”. Throughout the duration of the competition the insurance company’s Facebook fans can enter a draw to win a host of fabulous prizes.
