Michael Thomas Magill, Inn Road, Dollingstown, admitted disorderly behaviour on September 13 last year when he appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

He was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for two years and fined £150. The court heard that at 3.30am a police mobile patrol was in Charles Street, Lurgan, when the defendant walked out into the middle of the road in an aggressive manner and told police to ‘f—k off’.

Later in Market Street he asked police why they were following him and he swore at them. He was arrested and handcuffed and leg restraints had to be used when he refused to get in the police vehicle.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said that the defendant’s previous convictions were considerable and included causing damage, possession of a weapon and assaults.

A defence barrister said Magill would apologise for his behaviour to the court and the officers involved. He added that his client had seen the police on a number of occasions this night and what he did was a ‘bit of bravado’ on his part.
