Dr Loughridge practised in Carrick for 37 years and his influence on the quality of life in the borough was considerable because he not only served his patients with dedication and great skill but also made an outstanding contribution to the community through his many and varied interests.

Victor Hart, secretary of the trustees, said: “Today studying at university is expensive and it is great to be able to help and encourage students in a tangible way.”
