Bellaghy man fined over illegal taxi

An illegal taxi driver was fined a total of £425 and received eight penalty points at Magherafelt Magistrates’ Court on Monday after pleading guilty to a number of taxi licensing and insurance offences.

Seamus Milne (45) of McKenna’s Lane, Bellaghy, was fined £75 for failing to hold a Taxi Operator’s Licence, £75 for no Taxi Driver’s Licence, £75 for no Public Service Vehicle Licence and £200 for no Insurance. He was also ordered to pay £15 court costs.

On Friday 31st October 2014, DVA Enforcement Officers stopped and detained a car which had been used to convey passengers to a nightclub in Magherafelt.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle, which was driven by Mr Milne, was an unlicensed taxi. Mr Milne was subsequently interviewed about the matter however he denied receiving payment for the journey.
