Bellaghy pupil inspires grandpa to Skype from Peru

TEN year old Sara Lanao Madden, from St Marys Primary School Bellaghy has been awarded the Northern Ireland BT Internet Ranger of the Year Award for 2013 for her outstanding efforts teaching others to get online.

The Internet Rangers competition, which forms part of BT’s Get IT Together programme, is aimed at helping encourage people to learn basic computer skills and is specifically designed to reward students who share those skills with people in their local community.

Sara, has been teaching online skills to both her grandmother who lives in Derry and also her grandfather who lives in Peru. Although thousands of miles away, thanks to Sara, he now uses Skype and Facebook to keep in touch with all the family.
