Benefit fraud convictions

TWO people were convicted at North Antrim Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Liam Johnston (49) of Thornlea Drive, Coleraine failed to declare capital while claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £9,393. He was given a £300 fine and ordered to pay court costs of £37.

Rose Henry (38) of Marconi Street, Ballycastle failed to declare employment while claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £21,862. She was given 12 months imprisonment suspended for two years, a £300 fine and ordered to pay court costs of £36.

Both are required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
