Berlin, Londonderry and Donegal in quilt exhibition

Jeanette Warke of the Shared City Project explained the idea behind the project.

"I was on a trip to Germany which took place last year when I was invited along to display 'The Pathway of Life Quilt', which was created by The Women into Irish History Group through The Shared City Project and was part of an International Quilt Exhibition.

"The exhibition took place in The Museum for Women's Culture Regional/ International in Furth Germany," she explained.

There are three main quilts on display one from Berlin, one from Derry and one from Donegal.

Jeanette continued: "The three main exhibits all have the same theme of East Meets West. They are also all made from the same material, which comes from a very old roll of material, owned by the grandmother of a German woman involved in creating the quilts, Bertrum Jeitner-Hartmann.

"Quilts from Clonmany, Ardstraw, Glencolmcille and Derry and Donegal will also be featured at the exhibition all promoting friendship north and south.

"The quilt from our city was made by women from the east bank and the west bank of the city and highlights positive images of facilities for the whole community living here, trying to bridge the gap often associated with the division of the River Foyle."

Mayor, Cllr Colum Eastwood, added: "This exhibition is a fantastic example of how arts and crafts can bring communities together in mutual understanding and further our aims of working towards the shared future that we all seek."
