Berth right granted to charity man

MOYLE Council has agreed to a request from Ivan Thompson who is attempting to complete a solo anti-clockwise voyage around Britain via the Caledonian Canal, Loch Ness and past the Isle of Man on his yacht 'The Geordie Mermaid'.

He is attempting to raise money for The Ellen MacArthur Trust charity which helps young people between the age of 8 and 18 who have suffered from cancer and leukaemia.

By introducing them to sailing and giving them the opportunity to work within a team of people who have had to face similar problems, they are able to regain their self-confidence and independence.

Mr Thompson is contacting marinas and harbours around the UK to ascertain if they would kindly support my project by waiving berthing fees for one or two nights and he is set to call in to Ballycastle Marina.
