Best kept 
accolade for Dickson Park

A community representative has described a Best Kept Award win for a Seapatrick park as ‘fantastic.’

Bill Little from Seapatrick Community Association praised the local committee for their hard work after Dickson Park was given the Ellen McGowan Award for Housing at the 2014 Best Kept Towns, Villages and Housing Areas award ceremony recently.

The award was collected by local representatives at a ceremony in Banbridge District Council’s offices.

Independently run by the Northern Ireland Amenity Council, the awards programme recognises and rewards the towns, villages and housing areas that take pride in their appearance and environment.

Mr Little said: “It’s great to win this Best Kept award. Our committee puts in a lot of hard work, along with the help of the Council, to keep the park clean and tidy.

“We believe it’s worth all the effort as it makes it a nicer place for people to live in and it’s fantastic to see local people pull together with a common cause.”

Doreen Muskett MBE, Chair of the Amenity Council praised the work of many volunteers.

“It takes a lot of effort and collaboration between volunteers, local councils and residents to maintain an aesthetically pleasing environment. These people should be very proud of their achievements as they provide a terrific service to their whole community.”

She went onto say, “The places that have won Best Kept awards are clean and tidy, they lack litter and graffiti, the shop fronts are well kept and the residential gardens are pretty.

“Many of them have beautiful floral displays in public areas and on the approach roads to the town.

“The value of this work can’t be underestimated, I have no doubt that it can have a wonderful effect on the health and wellbeing of local people,” Ms Muskett added.

Environment Minister, Mark H Durkan said: “I have been a keen supporter of this programme for some time.”
