Best Road Safety event

Organisers, participants and prizewinners at the third annual Shannan McCracken Road Safety event organised by Ballymoney Road Safety committee at St. James's Church hall last Wednesday. With input from the PSNI, the Institute of Advanced Motorists, Ballymoney Road Safety committee and a number of exhibitors including CRUN, the event has made a valuable contribution to raising awareness of the risks to young drivers.

Shannan McCracken was a promising 17-year-old student at Dalriada who tragically lost her life in a road accident while returning home from a night out at the cinema in July 2009. Her death prompted Ballymoney Road Safety committee to form a partnership with Dalriada, the PSNI and the IAM with support from commercial, statutory and public service bodies.

Participants engaged in a series of initiatives were under the supervision of Roads Policing, Ballymena, Neighbourhood Policing, and a Road Safety committee member. Overall winner was Aaran Christie with Jonathan Creith winning the manoeuvrability test and Emma Glenn the first out of the hat in a prize draw.
