One of the participants, Beth Trinder (17) from Lisburn has been selected to attend the NFTS Craft Residential which will take place in London.

The audience of local film professionals and the young filmmakers with their family and friends had the chance to watch the young people’s films which premiered at the event and ask questions about the film industry.

BAFTA winning and Oscar nominated short film director, Michael Lennox (Boogaloo and Graham), filmmaker Ryan Tohill, casting director Georgia Simpson and Alison Crinion from Irish Industry Trust for IP Awareness were among the invited industry guests on hand to talk to the young people about their careers at a showcase event at Queen’s Film Theatre Belfast.

The BFI Film Academy initiative in partnership with Cinemagic, equipped young filmmakers, passionate about film, with the knowledge, skills, insight, confidence and practical training to help lay strong foundations for their pursuit of a career in the film industry.

As part of the training programme, the participants were allocated time to make a short film from concept to screen as well as taking part in the Cinemagic Festival, masterclasses and Q&A sessions in various film disciplines from the history of film, story development, directing and producing to film criticism, film finance and marketing and distribution.

Industry professionals who shared their skills and experiences with the young people throughout the project from September 2014 included Gareth Ellis Unwin, Jessica Malik, Terry Bamber, Leon Mc Geown-Fee, Brian Henry Martin, Michael Lennox, Patrick Maxwell, and Jonny Keatings. Representatives from Queen’s University, the National Film and Television School, (NFTS) the University of Ulster and Skillset also worked with the young people informing them about further opportunities in the creative industries and further learning.
