Bethany setting her sights on modelling

LOCAL swimmer Bethany Carson, who has set her sights set on the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016, is diving into the world of modelling.

The 20-year-old High Performance athlete said: “I have always been interested in modelling and my friends and family have been trying to get me to get into it for a while now and then my brother and I were signed up to MG Sports management company (under Alex McGreevy) in the summer who also deals with fitness modelling.

“So Alex persuaded me give it a go. I swim full time at the moment and therefore don’t have a job so I figured if I could make a bit of money through this it would be great, especially as it is such a fun way to do so.

“I have had good feedback from the photos that have been done so far so I’m delighted with that.”

Bethany’s brother, Luke, is Ireland’s top-ranked gymnast, and aims to make the Rio Games a family double for the Carson family.

Bethan moved to Dublin in May 2011 to train in the swimming High Performance Centre.

“I felt that this was the best way to further my career and to focus on my training,” she said. “It was originally only meant to be for a year, however, as my performances have improved I have decided to stay on and will be attending university somewhere in Dublin next year. I was hoping to make the 2012 Olympic Games this summer in the 4x200f relay, however, our team just missed out on doing so.”
