Better roads network at Giant's Causeway needed: Swann

Assemblyman Swann, who is also UUP Chief Whip and North Antrim UUP Chairman, stated that ‘an effective traffic scheme for this part of the North coast would be a massive boost for both tourism and the local economy something that our local economy needs’.

Mr Swann thanked the agencies and individuals who took part in a recent meeting he organised and chaired regarding concerns connected with traffic around the Giants Causeway Visitors Centre.

Assemblyman Swann said: “The current road infrastructure and parking availability are no longer able to cope with the international success of the now world renowned visitors’ attraction.

“A few months ago, I and my party colleague Councillor Sandra Hunter had organised a site meeting on behalf of a number of concerned local residents, but it soon became apparent that the solution to this problem required a multi-agency approach.

“That is why I convened the meeting, which included senior representation from Causeway Coast and Glens Council, The National Trust, PSNI, TransportNI and local business owners.

“We were able to have a full and frank discussion, which not only highlighted the problems and concerns, but also identified some potential solutions.

“As we promote tourism as a key economic driver for North Antrim, we must also ensure that we match facilities and infrastructure with demand and expectations.

“I welcome the commitment from all who attended this recent meeting and I look forward to this group delivering for the benefit of the locality and our visitors,” said Assemblyman Swann.
