Beware of metal thieves, say police

BALLYMONEY PSNI are urging the public to take care not to fall foul to thieves scouring north Antrim for copper and other metals which are currently fetching high scrap metal prices.

Inspector David Anderson said: “There has been a number of thefts of copper and metal over the past weeks, particularly from unoccupied houses and dis-used business premises.

“We would appeal to owners of premises to make them secure and, if they are going to be unoccupied for the medium to long term, to remove copper tanks or metal.

“We would ask neighbours to contact the police if they see any suspicious activity. The earlier we get information, particularly detailed information, the better and more effective our response time can be - things like vehicle registrations and the direction of travel of vehicles.”

The public are urged to call police on 08456008000 or phone the Crimestoppers number 0800555111.
