Bichon Frise is top dog at Latharna show

The Latharna Canine and Dog Training Club’s annual All Breed Open Show, under licence of the Irish Kennel Club, took place at the Blue Circle Sports Ground at Magheramorne recently.

Best in show was a Bichon Frise owned by June Gould of Drumbeg, with a Dachshund owned by Mr G McFaul of Coleraine was awarded the reserve prize.

The Champion Stakes competition was won by a Newfoundland, owned by Phyllis Greer of Bangor. Best puppy was a Newfoundland owned by David Bowes of Whitehead and reserve best puppy a whippet owned by Mrs L Thompson of Millisle.

Eleven-year-old Dionne Morris, from Greenisland, was first overall in the junior handling class.

Best-in-show judge, Rita Fitzsimmons, on behalf of the club, presented a cheque for £350 - the proceeds from the Carnfunnock Super Dog event held at the beginning of May - to Marbeth Gilmour and Eleanor Mark of Dogs Trust.

The Latharna club would like to thank all those who sponsored the show, especially, Larne Borough Council, Feedwell Animal Foods and Animal Ark Boarding Kennels and Cattery.
