Big boost for Ballymoney band

Tullaghans Sons of Liberty Flute Band have been kitted out in new uniforms and they will also have new drums on show when they take to the streets of the town.

The new uniforms and drums were dedicated on Saturday June 5 in the headquarters of the Independent Orange Order in Edward Street, Ballymoney, by Cyril Glass.

The new uniforms and drums had their first outing at the Pride of the Maine parade in Ballymena.

Band Master William McKinney told the Times here has been a change in the uniform from the old black jackets and blue trousers to orange and blue jackets and grey trousers.

William said: “We wanted to freshen things up. We have a lot of new young people with us now and the band is going from strength to strength with 36 members.”

The band has come a long way since being formed at Tullaghans Independent Hall on the Bravallen Road in 1949 and this year they are hoping for one of the biggest parades yet. They had over 40 bands last year.

William would like to thank the people of north Antrim who have supported their parades in Ballymoney over the years and he is hoping for a big turnout this weekend.
