Big changes to little Lurgan

THE public realm works in Lurgan continue with people noticing a big change to the central plaza area.

With about 52% of the major work completed you can now see where the two lanes of traffic are going to be throughout the town and how the cars can park parallel to the plaza.

RPS who manage the public realm works on behalf of council have continued to advise that the figures previously provided for car parking spaces are as accurate as can be.

In addition to brand new street furniture Lurgan will see 51 new semi-mature trees including trees from the lime family dotted around the town.

The new trees which for gardening purposes cannot be planted until November, will be semi-mature width 25-30cm of a girth and over five metres tall.

The trees will be planted in specially designed tree pits to avoid damaging the new paving and ease pedestrian access.

Again just to remind people that the remaining tarmac squares left within the granite works are deliberately left like this for easy access when putting in trees, bins or street furniture.

“We want to thank the traders for working with us and members of the public who continue to support their town” said a Council spokesperson, “We are planning a promotional campaign for Lurgan later in the year to bring more people from further afield into the town with both the Lurgan 400 celebrations and other planned events. Keep reading the Lurgan Mail for further details”.
