In its fifth year, the Big Festive Fry has raised substantial funds for projects in Africa and Central America.

It was inspired by the late Charlene Barr who had been moved by the massive earthquake in Haiti in 2010 and wanted to do something to help.

Charlene’s Project had been set up previously to help build schools in Uganda and though she has since passed away, her family and friends and continued her inspiring charity work.

Earlier this year the group went to Guatemala to two mountain villages, Vado Ancho and Las Escaleras, working with their partner Hope of Life.

“We received wonderful welcomes from the local people and were able to share gifts and food packs supplied by Hope of Life. The rains hadn’t come and food was scarce, the people were so thankful for not only what we had brought but our presence in their communities. We had toys, teddies and footballs for the children,” said Charlene’s dad Dr Dickie Barr.

Last year the Big Festive Fry was used to develop our third school in Kilwara, Uganda. Janice, Dickie and Rebecca Barr will be visiting Kilwara in Uganda in January to see progress there and to distribute items from the container that is currently on route to Uganda.

“This year ‘Festive Fry will help us raise money towards the £50,000 necessary to develop the schools in Guatemala, bringing hope and God’s love to these communities.”

The Big Festive Fry will be at St Saviours, Dollingstown on December 19 between 7:30am and noon.
