Big weekend for marchers

Members of Lurgan District LOL No 6 will take part in a service at Brownlow House at 7.45am on the Twelfth morning, then parade to the town centre at 8am.

The parade will make its way round the back of Shankill Parish Church before Orangemen, bands and followers assemble at Russell Drive where the buses will collect them and bring them to Newtownhamilton for the County Armagh Parade at 10am.

The demonstration field is located off the Castleblaney Road and the platform proceedings begin at 1.45pm.

The Orangemen are due back in Lurgan at around 4.30pm and the return parade from Russell Drive to Brownlow House via Sloan Street and Union Street is due to start at 4.45pm.

Given the sweltering start to the week District Master David Martin said on Monday: “I hope it’s a bit cooler than it is today.

“It can be difficult in weather like this, but beggars can’t be choosers and we’ve had a few bad days in recent years so we’ll take the rough with the smooth.

“The weather isn’t the most important things - it’s that we all have a peaceful and enjoyable day for all the family.”

Brethren from outlying districts such as Dollingstown and Waringstown will take part in the annual County Down parade in Loughbrickland.

On Sunday, the local members of the Royal Black Preceptory will descend on Bangor to celebrate the Thirteenth.

A service takes place at Brownlow House at 8am followed by a parade through the town to the car park at Lurgan Baptist Church at 8.30am.

Members of the Royal Black will return from Bangor at around 7pm for a parade from Turkington’s garage in Flush Place to Brownlow House.
