Bike fans race to Joey exhibition

The week-long display of Joey’s bikes, trophies, leathers, helmets and much, much more - including letters he received from Queen Elizabeth - is taking place at the North Road.

It has been years since such a large display of the iconic hero’s gear was made available to the public.

And fans have from across the globe are making the most of the rare opportunity with a number of items which have never been put on public display included.

Members of Joey’s family will be on hand throughout the week to speak to fans and show them around the exhibition.

Joey’s wife Linda said: “We have been putting a lot of work into the exhibition and we are delighted with how it has turned out.

“It’s great to see all the trophies and bikes and that laid out and for people to be able to come and have a good look at them.

“There has been a lot of interest since we announced it was taking place and we want to welcome everyone to come along.”

The exhibition was officially opened by Joey’s nephew and current racing star William Dunlop.

Opening times are 10am until 5.30pm until Friday and noon until 3pm on Sunday.

Admission is just £5, with free entry for children under 12.

There is also a range of souvenirs on offer to buy such as t-shirts and caps.

All proceeds will go towards refurbishing Joey’s old garage so that a permanent display can be erected at his home.
