‘Bin it to win it’ with new Council scheme

Carrickfergus Borough Council is encouraging residents to keep the town tidy this summer with a new incentive scheme.

Each year the local authority spends tens of thousands of pounds running its street cleansing operations - money which could otherwise be invested in facilities and services.

This year, the council will be running the ‘Bin It, Win it!’ initiative from July 1 to September 30 to promote responsible citizenship.

The initiative has already been shown to be a success in Larne Borough Council and is currently being piloted in Ballymena Borough Council.

The council recognises that many residents and visitors already dispose of their litter and dog mess responsibly using the waste receptacles provided throughout the borough. During the months of July, August and September members of the Environmental Services Team will be carrying out additional patrols of the borough.

Those who are observed disposing of litter and dog mess responsibly during this time will be approached and presented with a small card to thank them for doing so.

The officer will take the person’s details and will enter them into a prize draw at the end of the month where they will be given a chance to win a £50 voucher to use in one of the participating local businesses.
