Bio-farm scheme a success

OVER two thousand participants have taken up government financial incentives to boost biodiversity on their land in County Londonderry.

The take up rate of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) agri-environment schemes was higher in Londonderry than anywhere bar Tyrone and Antrim.

Agriculture Minister Michelle Gildernew revealed her Department provides financial incentives to farmers to maintain biodiversity through two agri-environment schemes within the Rural Development Programme 2007-13.
