The RSPB which gains most of its funding from membership has currently 13,000 members in Northern Ireland.

The cabin replaced the old shipping container that had been used since 1998 when the 280 hectares site was opened. The new facility can hold at least 30 people and has a community room. Each year the RSPB works with approximately 15,000 school children who can learn about the world around them at giant bird tables and walk trails at sites such as Portmore Lough.

Not only is it highly protected for a range of nationally and internationally important species, but it is also increasingly becoming a visitor attraction due to its biodiversity and beautiful scenery.”
