Birthday tribute to teenage road crash victim

A POIGNANT tribute has been paid to a young man who was killed in a road accident at Islandmagee a year ago.

Gary Walker, from Carrickfergus, died when his car left the Low Road, on the evening of April 15, 2009.

On Friday, on what would have been been Gary’s 20th birthday, relatives and friends travelled in a convoy to the scene of the accident, where flowers were laid, and to Brown’s Bay, where yellow balloons were released. Many participants also wore yellow, Gary’s favourite colour.

Ann Walker, Gary’s mother, told the TIMES: “It is fantastic to see so many young people remembering their friend - some of them have travelled from England and Scotland to attend. We are thrilled that Gary is as fresh in their minds as he is in ours; it has been a great comfort to us.”
