The Church of Ireland Bishop of Derry and Raphoe dedicated the state-of-the-art community hub on Monday (March 25). He also spoke at a special service to mark the occasion.

Bishop Good commended the Rector, Rev Malcolm Ferry, and the team responsible for bringing the hall project to fruition.

A diocesan spokesperson said: “This newly refurbished hall represents years of hard work. We are delighted that it is being used to serve need in our local community – putting into action our diocesan commitment to Transform Community and Radiate Christ.

“The hall has been a familiar landmark on the Dungiven Road in Londonderry for many years. The hall was officially handed over by well know local builders JM Jefferson a number of weeks ago.”

The facility is the latest incarnation of the hall, which was originally established as a National School back in 1882, and is named after the Rev. Alexander Stewart, who was rector of All Saints Parish when the idea for the building was first conceived.

Speaking to the Sentinel a few weeks ago Rev Ferry said: “We’ve got to use it. We haven’t created an ornament here. It’s not something to look at. It’s very beautiful to look at. But we’ve created a space to be used, that’s efficient and affordable.”

Explaining the All Saints Caring Association (ASCA) mission, Rev Ferry also said: “The Association’s motto is to improve the lives of people living in the Waterside.”
