Bishop’s Bible Week enters fifth year

The August event offers four nights of Bible exposition and worship and has gone from strength to strength over the years, becoming a much-anticipated date in the diary.

The Bishop of Down and Dromore, The Rt Revd Harold Miller, launched the Bible Week in 2007, setting it in late summer at the beginning of a new season in the church.

“We don’t know what challenges each year may bring in our lives and parishes, but nothing can be more vital than forming our minds and warming our hearts through the scriptures,” says Bishop Miller. “That’s why, each August, I invite everyone in the diocese and beyond to engage with the word of God and be encouraged by it.

“At the Bible Week we have been privileged to sit under some excellent teachers and 2011 is no exception, continues the Bishop. “John Hughes has over 40 years’ experience of parish ministry and is a well known Bible teacher at New Wine events at home and abroad. We are looking forward immensely to his studies of Elijah and Elisha.”

Mr Hughes was vicar of St Andrew’s High Wycombe for 15 years and retired from parish ministry in 2009 after 18 years as vicar of St John’s Harborne, Birmingham. He has a passion to train and equip disciples and more than 20 young men and women went forward for ordination during his time at St John’s. In the Birmingham Diocese he was on the Bishop’s Council as Chair of the House of Clergy and on General Synod, as well as being a Canon of Birmingham Cathedral. His son, Tim Hughes, is a well known worship leader and recording artist.

The Bishop’s Bible Week runs from Mon 22nd-Thurs 25th August 2011 at 8pm in The Jethro Centre, Lurgan. Whilst aimed primarily at clergy and lay people in Down and Dromore, the event is open and everyone is warmly welcomed to attend.
