Anne Taylor, chair of Belfast Lough Sailability, attended a service at the cathedral, where she was presented with a cheque for £400 by John Linehan, best known for the comedy character May McFettridge.

Anne stated: “Every year we actively seek support in relation to funding our activities from whatever source we can. Again this year we have been able to benefit from the Black Santa Christmas ‘sit out’ at St Anne’s Cathedral.”

Noting that since the start of the new year “the weather has been dreadful”, she extended thanks to volunteers who have been meeting on Saturday mornings to bail out boats, clean the Hansas, tidy ‘The Cabin’ and keep things shipshape in preparation for the start of the season.

Meanwhile, in support of nationwide Disabled Access Day on March 12, BLS is having an open event with ‘on the water’ activities from 11.00am to 1.00pm. Registration commences at 11.00am at ‘The Cabin’ at the gates of Carrickfergus Sailing Club.
