Blanket testing at Fire Station

A FREE electric blanket testing service will be available in Banbridge Fire Station this Thursday.

As fatal fires claim 13 lives this year across Northern Ireland, the Southern Trust would like to remind the public of its free electric blanket testing service and the need to take steps to prevent fire. Each year old or faulty electric blankets cause fires.

The roadshow will be at the fire station from 10am-4pm. Appointments are necessary - to book one call 028 3934 4973.

Gerard Rocks, Assistant Director of Promoting Wellbeing, for the Southern Trust said: “This free electric blanket testing service is available to anyone living in the Southern Trust area.

“Last year 610 blankets were tested by our trained electrical engineer and out of these, 342 blankets failed the safety test as they were either too old or were deemed to pose a fire risk to their owners. Blankets can fail due to wear and tear or become damaged because they are stored incorrectly.“

If you would like to have your electric blanket tested, please book an appointment in advance of the road show. It is advisable to book an appointment to avoid a lengthy wait.
