Councillor Magill noticed a young man behaving suspiciously at a door of a house last week.

The youth, described as in his late teens or early 20s made off when the councillor approached him only to return with an older man minutes later when again he was chased away.

"This was blatant - it was during the middle of the day," said Mr Magill who reported the incident to the local neighbouring policing team.

He said earlier in the day cash and jewellery was stolen from a home in the Charles Street area.

Cllr Magill continued: "The elderly and vulnerable are the victims here.

"These people who are doing this are doing their homework, they know who is on their own and who is out of the house.

"Just the other week there was a pensioner who discovered a burglar at his bedroom door.

"The community needs to be on the look out for each other and stop this from happening - if anyone sees anything suspicions then they need to report it to the PSNI right away."
