Bleary are British champions

Bleary and District Pipe Band were crowned British champions in Bathgate, Scotland at the weekend after a highly competitive event.

The band have been congratulated by local MLA Sydney Anderson: “Being crowned British champions is an outstanding achievement and all those involved in the band deserve credit for making this victory happen. There were over 120 bands that travelled to Bathgate and for Bleary and District to come out on top is remarkable, although not surprising because I know they are a band of outstanding quality.”

The band only made the decision to reform and compete again in September 2012, after they stopped playing in 2007. They have since had a string of successes such as being crowned All-Ireland champions at grade two level, winning both Scottish and UK Championships and coming runners-up in the World Championships last year.
