Bloeked path of police vehicle

Connor McNeill, whose address was given as Whitesides Hill, Portadown, appeared last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

He admitted jaywalking, disorderly behaviour and obstructing a constable on March 6 this year.

The court heard that at 1.30am police were in West Street in Portadown to prevent any disorder with people leaving drinking establishments.

McNeill, who was intoxicated, was asked on a number of occasions to go home but he ignored this and ignored police when they told him to get off the road for his own safety.

Another person, not known to the defendant, was arrested and McNeill got involved, trying to stop police making the arrest.

He stood in front of the police vehicle preventing it from leaving the area.

He was told again to get off the road and had to be physically removed.

He also opened the door of the police vehicle.

A solicitor representing McNeill said it was ‘bizarre behaviour’ and he did not know the other person.

McNeill had been at a nearby bar and was heavily intoxicated, the solcitor added.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, adjourned sentencing until August 10 so that a short sentence report could be prepared to see if the defendant was suitable for probation and community service.
