Bloomfield is named as Mayor

As expected, Alliance Councillor Alderman Stephen Martin was elected to serve as Deputy Mayor for the next year.

The Mayor was proposed for election by Alderman Michael Henderson. The proposal was seconded by Councillor James Baird and supported by all council members.

The Deputy Mayor was proposed by Alderman Geraldine Rice and seconded by Councillor Owen Gawith. The proposal was also supported by all elected members.

The new Mayor, Cllr Bloomfield, thanked his council colleagues for their support and paid tribute to the outgoing Mayor and Mayoress.

“This is a great personal honour and a privilege,” he said. “My aspiration is to reach out to all parts of the council area and I look forward to working towards a safer, unified and prosperous council area for the betterment of all.”

Mr Bloomfield also thanked his family for their support.

The Mayor will announce details of his Mayoral Charity at the full council meeting at the end of June.

During the council’s AGM on Tuesday (June 14), members also appointed the chairmen and vice- chairmen of the council’s committees.

Councillor Owen Gawith was appointed as Chair of Corporate Services with Councillor Ben Mallon as Vice-Chair.

Councillor Tim Morrow has been elected as Chairman of the Leisure Services Committee with Councillor Alan Givan as Vice-Chair.

Councillor Uel Mackin is now Chairman of the Development Committee with Councillor John Gallen as Vice-Chair.

Councillor James Baird was appointed as Chair of the Environmental Services Committee and Alderman James Tinsley will be the committee Vice-Chair.

Councillor Tim Mitchell is Chairman of the Governance and Audit Committee with Alderman Michael Henderson as Vice-Chair.

Outgoing Deputy Mayor, Councillor Alexander Redpath has been appointed as Chairman of the Planning Committee and Councillor Nathan Anderson has been elected as the committee’s Vice-Chairman,
