Glenarm was crowned the most beautiful small village in the Communities In Bloom contest during the 2015 National Symposium and Awards Ceremonies in Kamloops, Canada.

Scooping first place in the International Challenge (Small) category earlier this year, the coastal village saw off competition from the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Canada.

A large part of that success was down to the efforts of a small but devoted team of volunteers, Glenarm in Bloom, which joined forces with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to help transform the village.

And the local authority has recognised the group’s dedication at a celebration event to mark Glenarm’s remarkable achievement.

Volunteer Rosaleen Maybin joined Mid and East Antrim Mayor, Councillor Billy Ashe to formally accept the award from Honorary Canadian Consul, Ken Brundle.

Cllr Ashe said: “I wish to congratulate Glenarm in Bloom for this remarkable achievement.

“In conjunction with council staff, they enhanced civic pride, community involvement and aided the beautification of their already stunning village, and I am very pleased that this has now been officially recognised at an international level.

“This achievement is all the more significant as Mid and East Antrim Borough was the sole UK participant in this prestigious competition,” the Mayor concluded.
