The playground is now awash with spring colours after schoolkids joined the two organisations to plant barrels full of summer bulbs and primula.

The planting was organised by Carnlough Community Association and was made possible by funding from the Housing Executive to help the area continue to bloom and grow.

The group had hosted a planting session before Christmas with the children, and it is hoped that this extra set of planting will provide colour in the area throughout the summer.

Commenting on the initiative, the Housing Executive’s Area Manager Mairead Myles-Davey said: “I am delighted we were able to support Carnlough Community Association with this project.

“The children have made a contribution to their area which the whole community will enjoy over the summer.”

Carnlough Community Association’s Secretary Mary Watson also hinted that local people may get the chance to enjoy more spring blooms in the future.

“It was a terrific morning and the children’s enthusiasm was terrific, but keep watching out to see if you can spot some more ‘blooming barrels’ appearing around the village soon!” she revealed.

Carnlough Community Association (CCA) was formed in September 2006 with the aim of representing the Carnlough community and support it’s development.

The group is currently organising a trip to Doagh Famine Village on Friday April 29, with the bus leaving the Spar car park at 9am.
