Blue light's special assignment for Peter

A WHITEHEAD couple have welcomed a new arrival into the world after a race against time through a traffic jam.

Baby Peter was born oblivious to the drama that had unfolded en route to the Ulster Hospital on Wednesday of last week.

After finding themselves stuck in heavy traffic on the Belfast Road, Carrick, with mum-to-be in the advanced stages of labour, the couple alerted police.

Two local officers responded immediately and were able to negotiate the busy route and escort the vehicle to the hospital where the healthy baby boy was born just minutes later.

A police spokesman said: "The officers involved and the wider PSNI would like to send their congratulations to the new parents and baby Peter."
