BMX club plans to upgrade track

Funded by the Alpha Programme and Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, the redesigned track will meet national standards and attract major competitions in this high energy sport.

Supporting the project, Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure and Community Development Committee said: “The Council is delighted to work in partnership with the Alpha Programme to support Lisburn BMX Club in their efforts to upgrade this track.

“The plans look very exciting and will create a sporting facility that has the capacity to host national competitions and attract both competitors and spectators to the Lisburn area.”

He added: “It is hoped that these events and the new track will inspire others to take up the sport and potentially discover the next generation of BMX racers.

“I would like to thank Lisburn BMX Club members for their dedication to their sport and look forward to visiting the track when the construction work is completed later this year to see the Club in action.”

Warren Bell from the Alpha Programme Steering Group said: “The Alpha Programme, which recycles tax credits from the nearby Mullaghglass Landfill Site, has provided £50,000 funding towards the development of this exciting new BMX facility for the residents of Lisburn and beyond.

“We appreciate the considerable time and effort that the BMX Club has put into this project to get it to this stage and we look forward to returning to see the completed BMX track being used by all of the local community.”
