Boiler replacement scheme extended for another year

Social Development Minister, Mervyn Storey MLA, has today announced a cash injection of £2million to extend the Boiler Replacement Scheme for another year.

The scheme – which helps people who own their own homes to upgrade their existing boiler - was due to come to an end on 31 March this year. However, this annoucement will see the scheme extended for another year.

Since the scheme was launched in September 2012, 18,500 boilers have been replaced. Under the scheme, owner-occupiers earning less than £40,000 gross income and who have a boiler at least 15 years old, are eligible to have it upgraded.

Grants of up to £1,000 are available to assist with either replacing an inefficient boiler for a more energy-efficient condensing oil or gas boiler, switching from oil to gas, or to a wood pellet boiler.
