Bookie slashes odds on Alice as name for new royal baby

A Lurgan-based bookie has been inundated with bets on the name of the new Royal baby due next month.

Tommy French Bookies said a sudden flurry of bets began yesterday with an upsurge in betting that the new baby would be called Alice.

Prince William and his wife Kate are expecting their second baby next month.

Manager Gary Lynch said: “Well we had little to no interest in the market until the past few days when all of a sudden people started coming in asking for the betting.

“The majority are asking for bets on Alice. We have had to cut the odds from 14/1 to 9/2,” he said.

“Alice is the joint favourite now along with Charlotte (also 9/2), then Elizabeth 5/1 and Victoria at 10/1.

“It seems to suggest most people are certain the baby is going to be a girl.

“The shortest male name is James at 10/1,” said Gary.
