Boost for club on anniversary

The announcement of a new clubhouse and 3G pitch at the Lurgan Town Arena couldn’t have been better timed.

On the week that Lurgan Town FC have been celebrating their 25th anniversary, club secretary Philip McKinley was pleased to announce the club will see major development at its home ground.

The club have secured £500,000 funding through the Department of Social Development to develop the arena which will include a new clubhouse along with a new nine-a-side 3G pitch.

There will also be upgrades to fencing, floodlights and the car park. It is hoped the development will be complete by April 2014.

On the pitch Lurgan Town FC have seen their membership grow massively in the last four years and off the pitch Lurgan Town Arena is developing into a central football hub for all.

The club will be running workshops for children from the neighbourhood renewal areas as soon as the development is complete. The workshops will be an addition to what is already happening at the club through the dedication of a hard-working committee, coaches and other volunteers.

Club secretary Philip McKinley thanked to the Department of Social Development for their support in funding this new development.

He added: “This will be a major boost not only to the club but to the community as a whole. The club will continue to meet the needs of all within the neighbourhood renewal area and help provide more social interaction through its workshops and football sessions.”
