Boozing tops fears list

UNDERAGE boozing, youthful nuisance, vandalism, dangerous driving, speeding and drug dealing are the five biggest priorities for households in Londonderry.

A new survey by the local District Policing Partnership (DPP) conducted over the summer turned up the findings. Its results will play an important part in shaping future policing priorities for the Council area.

The Household Survey found that the top five top issues of main concern to householders were underage drinking; young people causing a nuisance; vandalism; dangerous/careless driving; speeding and drug dealing.

It also created a baseline of satisfaction and confidence in the service provided by the PSNI.

The proportion of respondents with at least some confidence in the police was 68 per cent with 28 per cent of respondents having little or no confidence in the police.

Forty-two per cent of respondents stated that the police were doing a good job in the Foyle area with thirty per cent stating that the police were not doing a good job.

Speaking on the release of the results DPP Chair Alderman Joe Miller said: "The survey findings are of great value to the DPP as they assist us in monitoring police performance, and coupled with other forms of local consultation we are carrying out, these results will play a significant part in the development of the policing priorities contained in the Foyle Local Policing Plan for 2010/11.
