Borough’s artwork to be preserved in photos

ALL publicly owned oil paintings in the Larne Borough Council are to be photographed as part of a nation-wide initiative.

The Public Catalogue Foundation (PCF) has been photographing oil paintings held in institutions such as town hall across the UK for a project called Your Paintings.

The aim is to keep a record of artwork that can then be utilised by researchers, students and other people in years to come.

PCF is now over halfway through its project and has so far photographed 110,000 paintings from over 1,500 collections, including Carrickfergus, Ballymena and Newtownabbey Councils.

Larne Council has now compiled a list of works held in its buildings, which include portraits of Sir Thomas Dixon and Lady Dixon, Sir Hugh Smiley and Lady Smiley, a painting of Larne Promenade, a painting of the Kilcoan steamship, and several others.
