Boxcutter and DK to play high definition Guildhall video dome

The best in established and up-and-coming Irish electronic music will feature in an 11 metre high-definition video dome in Guildhall Square over three nights later this month.

The local talent will be complemented by British Ninja Tune stalwart DK for what’s billed as ‘Under the Dome’ - the musical element of the annual CultureTech Festival.

Curated in partnership with Belfast label Champion Sound, and supported as part of the City of Culture legacy Music City 2014 programme, the lineup for the three nights includes performances by Belfast producer and DJ, Boxcutter, alongside Dublin-based electronic act Contour on Friday, September 19; DK on Saturday, September 20 and rising electronica stars SlowPlaceLikeHome and UNKNWN on the Sunday night.

Each evening’s programming will be accompanied by fulldome visual shows produced by international VJ collective, United VJs, crafting uniquely immersive audio-visual experiences under the dome.

Festival director Mark Nagurski said: “The fulldome experience is truly unique, it’s like stepping in to a music video that’s being carefully composed in real time to match the feel of the evening.

“We’re delighted to be working with so many exceptional artists to create three truly exceptional nights.

“And through the support of our funders and sponsors we’ve been able to make it completely free so that as many people as possible can check it out.”

Pete Whelan from Program Music, the company that manages the dome venue, added: “We recently stunned the crowds at Kendal Calling Festival with a ground breaking production called ‘Luna 9’ and we now are incredibly excited to have the opportunity to bring a similar wonderful programme of immersive experiences ‘Under The Dome’ to entertain the people of Derry.”

The evening events will also be supported by a family-friendly daytime programme, in partnership with Fulldome UK and Dome Club, that includes a combination of educational, artistic and cultural experiences all produced to enhance the fulldome experience.

The weekend will also see showings of DJ Food’s ‘The Search Engine’ and a visual show based on the seminal Pink Floyd album ‘The Wall.’
