Boy (13) dies after motorbike crash in Magilligan

A 13-year-old boy has died following a motorcycle crash at a dirt track in Magilligan, County Londonderry.

The crash occurred at a motocross track just off the Seacoast Road yesterday afternoon and the boy was airlifted to Altnagelvin Hospital yesterday after a serious accident at a motocross track in Magilligan, County Londonderry. Sadly, the boy has since passed away.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police are investigating a sudden death on behalf of the coroner in relation to an incident in the Seacoast Road, Limavady yesterday, Thursday, 25 August.”

The crash happened at around 1.20 pm.

An Irish Coastguard Rescue helicopter from Sligo was involved in airlifting the boy.

He was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry, where he underwent emergency surgery.

However, the boy has sadly passed away.

The Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, meanwhile, say they are conducting an investigation into the “circumstances of the accident”.

A council spokesperson said: “Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council was notified yesterday afternoon of a serious accident involving a young person at a Motocross premises in Magilligan. Officers from the Council attended the scene immediately and investigations into the circumstances of the accident are ongoing.”
