She added: “I’m delighted and honoured to accept the nomination from my party colleagues and look forward to taking the Alliance Party’s message to the voters.

“As the only party that is socially progressive, financially responsible and clear on the rule of law, only Alliance can offer the voters a clear alternative to the divisive politics regularly displayed by other parties.

“I plan on running a positive campaign, tackling the issues that I know matter most to local people. With a career spanning over 30 years in the health service, I know the pressures facing the sector and the concerns around the future of Causeway Hospital.

“As Deputy Mayor I tackled issues including economic regeneration, building our tourism potential, encouraging greater community relations and making sure our local arts sector was protected and enhanced.

“As Chair of the Causeway Borough of Sanctuary, I have been working to create a place of welcome and support to those who are marginalised and refugees. As an MLA I would build on this legacy, working with my Alliance colleagues at the Assembly to build a better, shared society where all cultures celebrated and welcomed.

“Last year Westminster result demonstrated clearly the Alliance Party’s message of a shared future has resonated with local people, with more than ever stepping forward to support me.

“I look forward to hitting the streets over the coming weeks and months, proving Alliance is the vehicle for change many are looking for.”

Trevor Lunn MLA added: “I was delighted to see Yvonne Boyle selected to run alongside me in May’s Assembly election. A hard worker, with the drive and passion to take Northern Ireland forward, she will be an asset to the Alliance Party team at Stormont.”
