Alan Campbell, the Pipe Major with the band, who has worked very hard throughout the year to ensure the band was ‘competition fit’ was delighted when they came in sixth out of 39 bands in their grade. They also started off the season with a new drum corps under to stewardship of Drum Sergeant Richard Campbell, who said it was a great achievement for the band to be placed sixth.

To win the trophy the band had to play in a qualifying round first, and were placed first out of 19 bands and came first in three out of the four categories.

Another milestone of note for the band is the fact that piper Johnny Connor, who was awarded an MBE in 2010, and fellow piper Bertie Campbell, are celebrating a century of piping between them this year. Johnny had notched up 55 years, while Bertie had played for 45.
