“Consumer behaviour in an increasingly digital world is changing the face of traditional banking. Customers now visit branches less frequently and many are using other convenient ways to bank. To keep pace with these changes we continue to increase our investment in alternative banking channels such as telephone banking, online banking and mobile banking”.

Mr Wilcox continued: “I fully understand that this news may be disappointing for our customers, but I can assure them that Danske Bank remains committed to continuing to meet their banking needs. I have written to all of our Maghera branch customers to assure them of this commitment.

“Our ‘real time’ banking between branches means that our customers can use any branch of Danske Bank in Northern Ireland as their own. They will be made welcome wherever, and however, they wish to use our branch network.”

Over recent years Danske Bank has continued to invest in its digital channels while also enhancing day to day banking services. Twenty two local Danske Bank branches are now open every Saturday until 4.30pm, providing more flexibility for customers while advisors are also available on the telephone from Monday to Sunday. Through the Bank’s partnership with the Post Office® customers with debit card based accounts can also use their branches* to check account balances, withdraw cash and make personal or business cash and cheque lodgements. The Bank has also launched its new Paym service where registered customers can now transfer money to friends or family using just their mobile phone number.

Over the coming weeks customers will find details in the Maghera branch of support sessions that Danske Bank will be holding there prior to the merger with the Magherafelt branch. These sessions, available outside of normal banking hours, will offer further guidance on the different banking channels that Danske Bank can offer. Customers can register their interest in attending one of these support sessions, by speaking to any member of the branch team in Maghera.

The Danske Bank cash machine at Bradley’s Filling Station on the Coleraine Road in Maghera will remain in place and there are several other cash machines in the town that customers are able to use. As an additional alternative customers can withdraw cash from the Post Office®.
