Breaking news - Shock result at Council AGM

CRAIGAVON Council could have its first Sinn Fein Mayor after a shock result in the voting.

The council's AGM is currently locked in a procedural wrangle after the DUP and UUP voted for their own choices as Mayor allowing Sinn Fein representative Mairead O'Dowd to top the poll with 11 votes.

At issue at present is a unionist attempt to have the four votes Alderman Arnold Hatch (UUP) received for election as Mayor to the DUP's Carla Lockhart, who received 10 votes. Should they succeed it will mean the DUP Councillor takes the top spot.

Council officals are now studying standing orders(the council's 'rule book') to see if such a move will be allowed.

We will keep you posted as this breaking story develops.
