The Sergeant said the incident took place as Ivan was driving home on a minor road from Glaslough to Caledon, when his car became trapped in a dipped part of the road that had flooded.

Gardai, the Fire Service and Civil Defence all took part in a search operation after he was reported missing at 8am this morning.

Sadly, his body was found at around 1pm this afternoon.

A post mortem is due to take place in the morning.
